download problem using IE 6 SP1

Categories:

I cannot download the Runas.vbe script on the main downloads page using IE 6 SP1. But when I tried it using Netscape 7.0 it downloaded fine. Don't know if this is a problem for others or not.

BTW, the message I get in IE is this:

====================

This file doesn't belong to the site you came from

Please e-mail the webmaster of the site you came from and tell him:

As a quick followup to what I posted above, the Runas.vbe file I downloaded wanted to be saved as "runas.rar". I don't know what kind of file that is. I renamed it to runas.vbe but the vbscript interpreter complains of compilation errors. I tried renaming it to runas.tar and runas.zip in case it was compressed, but my unzipper/uncompressor can't deal with it either. Sigh.

I tried downloading another file with IE, but got the original error message posted above. Then I tested another download with Netscape and that worked fine, no problems. It seems to be isolated to the runas.vbe download.

I find this very weird :-? . The mesage you got should only be displayed if you try and download the file directly from a link, i.e http://www.it-hq.org/modules/mydownloads/visit.php?cid=15&lid=31 , or if you try and download the file from a website that has created a direct link on their page. This function is to stop file leeching. If you try and download it through my site you shouldn't have a problem at all. I've tested the download by left mouse clicking on the link through my site with IE6 SP1 myself and it works fine, so it's got me a little stumped as to why it's not working for you.

This one should be an easy one. For all the files I host myself, I use RAR compression to help save on bandwidth. For this I use WinRAR from www.rarlabs.com as I find it to be a whole lot better at compressing files than WinZip is, and also has a few more features that WinZIP doesn't have. Download WinRAR and you should be away. I've added WinRAR to the downloads section of this site.

Cheers

Ah, you're the best. That WinRAR utility worked great, and so does the extracted runas.vbe app. Thanks.

Yeah, I don't know what's up with my IE not being able to download stuff. I do click on the link from your site to download the file. The fact that it works in Netscape for me shows I'm doing it correctly. I did have an anti-popup app running for IE, but I disabled that and it made no difference (and besides, the anti-popup wasn't catching anything anyway). Weird.

Thanks again. I've been hunting for that runas.vbe app for a long time. Maybe I should have saved myself some time and written it myself. LOL :lol:
