Google Adsense advertising revenue

Google Adsense advertising revenue

Categories:

G'day, I was just reading Record month for IT Headquarters. You comments about Google Adsense advertising revenue just got me wondering. Can you give me an idea about when it is worth contemplating adding Adsense to a site. Obviously from your comments that it is worthwhile for a site receiving 7000 visitors per month. Any idea what the cuttoff point is. My site only generated 106 visitors last month so I'm assuming that its not worth bothering with advertising yet, but when should I start adding them? Thanks for any pointers.

Hey Brian :-) ,

There is no specific point at which it becomes worthwhile to start advertising on your site. Traffic is a big factor, but it also depends greatly on why your visitors are coming to your site. Basically ads need to be offering products and/or services that are relevant to your site. Having a quick look at your site I would say that ads for pubs, resturants and anywhere old friends might like to organise to meet up might be a good target for you. If I were you I would still probably wait until you are getting a couple of thousand visitors a month before applying as otherwise you may well get rejected.

*EDIT*

BTW - Can you tell me where you got that oldfriends module from, or did you develop that one yourself?

Thanks for that Brash,

I wrote the oldfriends module myself, it is still very much a work in progress. There is some SQL that that I wrote using a version not supported by my host

that needs to be re-written and I would like to add a function for organising re-unions.

I originally had a look at the alumni module at XOOPS but it didn't suit my needs. It think from memory that it is a hacked version of MyAds and the database

structure just seemed wrong to me.

I only just opened the site to the public and all the current members are friends of mine, but even with them I'm finding that they are unwilling (or not

sure about) entering their data into the oldfriends module, and nearly all the forum postings come from me.

I think that maybe its a chicken and egg syndrome. Once there is a lot of data in the module then people will add their own more freely.

Whats your experience with this site? What was the turning point that drove traffic to your site?

(I know what drove me here and that was the XOOPS site being down and the need for some XOOPS support in English)

I don't think there was any specific turning point, but if I had to choose one I would say it was when I wrote the performance analysis of the 4 article modules. The creation of AMS was also a very large factor.
